How to Keep Consistency and Discipline When Starting a New Activity
Nowadays it has become increasingly difficult to maintain consistent habits and be disciplined with ourselves and our duties with so many distractions in this modern era.
Starting a new activity can be exciting but also overwhelming. It's important to stay consistent and disciplined to ensure success. Here's a method that has been working for me:
Create a "Rewirement Table" with a 7-day challenge for each new activity.
Track your progress daily.
Evaluate your progress at the end of each week.
Repeat for 4 weeks to make it a habit.
The rewirement table is simple: list the activity you want to start and the days of the week. For example, if you want to start exercising every day, keep tracking it like this:
Each day, mark whether or not you completed the activity. At the end of the week, evaluate your progress.:
Did you complete the activity every day? If not, why?
Use this information to adjust your rewirement table and try again.
Remember: It’s ok if you can’t do it all in a roll during the first weeks, keep trying, the secret is persistence, you are doing something for yourself. Be disciplined with it and keep going.
Consistency and discipline are key to making a new activity a habit. Use the rewirement table to stay on track and make progress towards your goals, and if you want to go deeper, here is a free course from Yale University.
Happy rewiring!
